You've landed at Milano Centrale — via train, from Malpensa Express, from a long-distance high-speed train. Your ticket says San Siro. Here's every practical way to cover the ~7 km between the two.
Metro: the standard route
Take M2 (green line) from Centrale to Cadorna (7 minutes). Change to M1 (red line) toward Rho Fiera or Bisceglie, get off at Lotto (10 minutes). At Lotto walk 12 minutes to the stadium, or transfer to tram 16 for the last stretch.
Alternative single-metro route: M5 (lilac line) from Centrale toward San Siro Stadio, direct — around 20 minutes to San Siro Stadio station, which drops you at the stadium doors.
Metro ticket: €2.20 single ride, €7.60 24-hour pass. Buy at the station or on the ATM Milano app.
Tram: slower but scenic
From Centrale walk to the tram lines on Via Vittor Pisani, board tram 5 or 9 toward the city center, then connect to tram 16 at Piazza Cordusio or Duomo. Tram 16 runs to "San Siro Stadio" terminus. Total time: 45–55 minutes.
Not the fastest option, but a good introduction to Milan if it's your first visit.
Taxi
25–35 minutes in normal traffic. €25–35 fare including baggage supplement. On event days, budget 45+ minutes and €40+ due to congestion around the stadium — the taxi will drop you 300–500 meters from the venue.
App options: FreeNow, itTaxi, Uber Black. Regular ride-share (UberX/Pop) is not available in Milan.
On foot
Not recommended: 90 minutes, 7.5 km through mixed neighborhoods. Save walking for the last stretch (Lotto → stadium is a pleasant 12-minute walk through post-war residential grid).
Event days: what changes
Big concerts (50,000+) and derby matches:
Before the event: metro M5 and tram 16 get progressively packed 90 minutes before start time. If your show begins at 21:00, board by 19:00 to travel comfortably.
After the event: the M5 platform at San Siro Stadio can queue for 30–45 minutes. Walking to Lotto (12 min) to catch the less crowded M1 is often faster overall.
From Malpensa or Linate airports
Malpensa: Malpensa Express to Milano Cadorna (37 min, €13), then M1 to Lotto and walk / tram 16. Total ~1h from terminal.
Linate: M4 (blue line) from Linate Aeroporto to San Babila (12 min), change to M1 toward Rho Fiera, get off at Lotto. Total ~40 min.
If you're staying at Casa Ricciarelli
The apartment is 20 minutes on foot from the stadium — no metro or tram required for the show itself. Tram 16 stop "San Siro Stadio" is 4 minutes from the door if you prefer to ride the last leg.
